who You are

Mark 4:39-41- He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”  They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Jesus, forgive me for failing to recognise who You are. My fear has clouded my vision of You. It has held me back from drawing near and robbed You of my praise and thanks of which You are worthy.

Show me who You are again. For if we know You, we know the Father. We know God. He revealed Himself in Your person.

May my heart and mind be captivated by an ever growing understanding of You.

To my glorious King,

How weak I am. How feeble and stupid. You have so graciously and faithfully led me and been my protection and peace in every situation.

Why I fail to remember that you are my shield? I do not know.

Perhaps I fret when I cease to trust.

Psalm 3:3/5- “but You O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the one who lifts up my head. …I lay down and slept. I awoke for the Lord sustained me”

1 John 4:18- “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has to do with torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love”

I am following Jesus. He is a rope that I am holding tightly onto. Wherever it may lead, my grip is firm. Not because I am strong but because He holds my hands.

I need not fear for He sustains the life that exists in Him. He sustains me.

This world is passing away (1 John 2:17) but he who does the will of God abides in Him forever. He is forever.

What a joy to abide in a God who is eternal. In a God who is forever.

My hope is in One who is eternal. A rock that never crumbles.

He knows our frailty and our weakness. Doesn’t just know but sympathizes..”to feel or express compassion”.

Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a High Priest (Jesus) who cannot sympathize with our weakness, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly before the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find  grace in our time of need”.

No more do I see this than when Jesus was in the garden awaiting his deathfor our sin.

Luke 22:42-44 ” ‘Father if it is your will take this cup away from me; nevertheless not my will but yours be done’. Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground”

This is why we come boldy to Him for grace and help. For when we are weak, we run to One who was in agony for us. When we are anxious, we run to One who sweated blood…One who was driven to earnest prayer for strength to bear the suffering He endured for us. He triumphed over the greatest anguish… seperation from God (I cannot fathom what this would be like for one who had perfect unity with God and has the status of God) bearing God’s anger for our sin, dying in our place. He rose again for death had no power over Him. Therefore we should not fear death for His life is ours and it is eternal.

2 Corinthians 12:10 “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

How grateful I am for Your perfect life Jesus. I much prefer Yours than mine.

May my weakness always serve to remind me of Your strength.

who is on the throne

Psalm 63:3-4 “Because your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.”

David, in the wilderness was looking to God. He had so much to fear but he praised. Lift your eyes to gaze upon who God is. Praise. To gaze upon Him is to put to death fear and anxiety. For there is no room for it. In light of who He is, the only thing there is room for in our hearts is praise.

Matthew 6:34- “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble”

Worry is a result of being anxious about the future. We try to play God…we have put ourselves on His throne. We’re not created to. The throne is for One who is all knowing and in control…when we sit on his throne we try to figure it all out and to control our situations…we become anxious.

Yet He has given us the present moment to focus on…what an act of grace! God’s grace and strength is for the present. The ability to trust is for the future.

When tomorrow becomes today, I know His Spirit will guide.

“Give us today our DAILY bread”.

Sustained by Him. One day at a time.
